Dry ice blasting is a cleaning process where solid CO₂ pellets are accelerated by compressed air at a surface. On impact the pellets embrittle the contamination and sublimate — turning straight from solid to gas — helping lift residue away without leaving any blasting media behind.

Carried out correctly, yes. Our operatives use appropriate PPE, and every job is planned with ventilation, CO₂ monitoring and exclusion zones covered in the risk assessment and method statement for the site.

Will it damage my equipment?

Dry ice blasting is non-abrasive, so it cleans without eroding the substrate the way grit blasting can. Suitability still depends on the surface, so we assess and test a small area during the site survey before any full clean.

In most cases yes. Because there is no water or grit, equipment can often be cleaned in situ and even while warm, which removes much of the strip-down and reassembly time.

Pressure washing relies on water at high pressure, which means drying time, run-off to contain and a real risk of water ingress around motors, panels and electrics. Dry ice blasting is completely dry, so electrical and mechanical plant can often be cleaned in place with no moisture introduced.

Is dry ice blasting better than sand or grit blasting?

For contamination removal on equipment that must not be eroded, yes. Sand and grit blasting are abrasive and leave spent media to sweep, bag and dispose of. Dry ice is non-abrasive and the media sublimates, so only the removed contaminant is left behind.

In many cases. Because there are no solvents or detergents, you avoid COSHH storage, chemical dwell times and contaminated rinse water — which is particularly valuable in food, pharmaceutical and hygiene-critical environments.
